Doug's travels

Recently a friend of mine began his walk into Spirit world. He did not follow traditional ways yet was very Spiritual. In my way a four day fire is kept to help guide one who has begun their walk. I chose to do that for him.

The second night of the fire something interesting happened. Most people probably would not have noticed.

At 1:30am I set two logs down to burn low and long so I could take a nap. Then I set my alarm for 4:00am, figuring I would resupply the fire with more wood then. Not unusual when you are tending a four day fire alone. As it turned out the wood burned faster than I anticipated.

Everything in camp was very quiet and calm. At 3:30am I was awakened by a strong gust of wind that was very loud. I immediately got up to look to see if it was getting windy. When I stepped out of the cabin there was no wind and everything was quiet and still.

I looked over to the fire 🔥. It was flat to the ground and looked like a glowing pool of red hot ash  if I had not been awakened the fire might have gone out. 

I could see him smiling at me as I rekindled the fire.

It is with great sorrow that I have to tell you all that a member of our group has begun his walk into a new realm. Douglas Williams passed today. I am lighting a four day fire 🔥 and All are welcome to come by to pay their respects. Doug is a great man, an Elder, who benefited many as he walked this life.

A teaching given by my Elder.

Elder Wisdom! A teaching given to me by Ojibwe Elder Larry Matrious First: Draw a circle on paper. Second: put a dot in the center of the circle. Third: put a mark at the top of the circle. You can indicate that mark to represent North. Then put a mark on each side of the circle and the bottom. Mark those as East, South and West. T he circle represents balance and the dot in the center represents you. Now write in next to the East, Emotion. Next to the South, Physical. Next to the West, Spiritual. Next to the North, Mental. These are the four parts of your being. The dot in the center can move in the circle depending on what is pulling you. Your task is to keep the dot stable and in the center. Sitting with the fire.

Original Fireside Chat     For as long as man has gathered nothing has surp assed the calmness of sitting by  the fire and sharing thoughts with one another. Our ancestors from every place on earth have done this since time immortal. The fire itself seems to offer peace and tranquility as it reaches out to warm us and connect us with a sense of oneness.  At our home we have a fire almost weekly and anytime that someone requests to sit by the fire. We have an outside fire to sit out in the open day or night. There is a fire inside a lodge for shelter during the winter months or when it rains. We invite anyone who desires to join us by the fire.   When we  gather,   we sit in a circle around the fire. We all are equal in the creation . Native people use the circle to teach that we are all equal and should be  right size with one another. A feather will be passed around.
